Salvage grocery directory

Thanks to Frugal Veggie Mama, I just heard about a new online salvage store directory! The Tennessee list is fairly accurate, though Turrentine's in Nashville no longer exists.

If you're wondering what a salvage grocer is and why you would ever want to shop at one, here's a Q & A with links to all my previous salvage grocery posts.

Apparently Michiganders aren't interested in salvage stores. LOL There is only one store listed. Oh well...

Michigan is an interesting state for grocery shopping anyhow. There aren't too many chain stores, and there aren't that many grocery stores period.

so sad, greenville isn't one of these. But I still have my $6 box sale this Saturday!

But Michigan has one more than Maryland! My daughter and I used to travel up Route 30 in Pennsylvania to visit my parents when they lived in PA. We have very fond memories of stopping at the Little Barn in Bedford. It's just a little too far (about 130 miles!) from where we live now to make a road trip just to shop there - boohoo...

I used to shop at the one in Oklahoma City. It's a dirty, dark and dingy place and makes buying salvage food a little scary. However, once you get over that, they have lots and lots of stuff - not just canned items - they have refrigerated, frozen, cleaning, paper and toiletry items.

I was looking forward to going into a salvage grocery for the first time this weekend while visiting my Mom. There is one just down the street from her and she has told me good things about it.

You can imagine my delight when one of the first foods I discovered upon entering the store was a box of Barilla Pasta Plus for only 50 cents!! I couldn't believe my luck! I can't wait to try it. :)

I was pleasantly surprised at the variety of foods that this particular store had and that all their outdated things were in a seperate section appropriately labeled...

Thank you for your blog! I so enjoy reading your posts and getting fresh inspiration for my home.

We have a couple Amish stores that are salvage grocery stores.
They are great now, but a few years back, well about 9 to be exact, I was pregnant with my first son working for them sorting food and let's say, some of the crates of food were not in a condition that anyone should eat. But.....I do shop there as they no longer get those really cheap crates that had living creatures living in them, so I love shopping there, I still can't buy pasta there though! = ) Bad memory!
So, make sure if anything looks like it has been taped, or is dark and dingy store where they are really trying to save money, I would only buy canned goods! I love it though! It is up by my mom, so it is a drive, but everytime I visit I go! I had 2 bags of groceries for $9 this last time!

In Michigan I know of two good ones, Millers in Centerville and my favorite is Pineview in McBain. We stop there every time we go up Hwy. 66. Does anyone know of a good one in southeast Oklahoma
