Behind the screen

You might wonder what mom bloggers talk about when they sit around a table in real life.

Pretty much what we write about online, only with a heavy dose of tech chat.

Busymom, Mrs. Fussypants, Jordana, Michelle and I discussed everything from grammar spam to loading a dishwasher the right way. Perhaps we didn't jet off to any all-expenses-paid blog trips, but I think having a local group of blogging buddies is even better.

Of course, it wasn't all gossip about Google searches and our favorite blogs.

With 4 pregnant ladies around the table, we soon found the common ground of women everywhere: birthin' babies.

Ah, mom blogging. You gotta love it.

Wait a minute!! Five ladies sitting around a table, four pregnant - so which one of you is NOT pregnant. Just tell us that and we'll figure the difference.

I love it - loading the d/w correctly! That's a topic of discussion in our home!

Happy Monday Meredith!

I'll own up to being one of the pregnant ladies at the table...but the others can speak for themselves.

My hubby asked what we chatted about for so long...as I started to list the various topics, his eyes started to glaze over. I think he was sorry he asked. Hehe.

I always enjoy our dinners!

Congratulations, Meredith!! That is wonderful!

If, indeed, this is true, congratulations! Please confirm! Also, would you not need that 2nd car this summer with a small child, a toddler and another one on the way? When I was pregnant, the thought of being anywhere not air conditioned (ie walking to store, etc.)was too exhausting to even think about!

Congratulations, Meredith! May God continue to bless your beautiful family.

What exciting news! And, honestly, you never know what God has in store. I had my first son at age 28, then a miscarriage when he was 4 and couldn't get pregnant again until he turned 7. Then we've had 4 in quick succession with the most recent one being due May 1 and I just turned 40 in February.

My most frugal advice for being pregnant is to use this time to plan ahead.

Thank goodness someone else spelled out or else I would have missed the clue. Congratulations Meredith! Here's a healthy, easy pregnancy with more of the same for labor & delivery. Can't wait to see if Elise is going to be surrounded by brothers or if Andrew is going to have two little sisters.

OH MY GOODNESS! Are you expecting??? I hope you aren't leading us on. Congrats! I wish I had a community of bloggers in my area. I have only found two in Indiana. Chicago is the closest that anyone is to me so I am jealous that you have that wonderful sense of community within your area. I wish I could live there too!

Shannon said...

I second Amy's wish - wouldn't it be great if we all had other mommy bloggers nearby?

Well, if you aren't pregnant, everyone's going to feel pretty silly. And if you are, just let us know already! I'm so not good at guessing games.

Meredith - In light of number three (yeah!) coming along I thought you might get a kick out of the article I wrote about today. Here's the link to my post.

I'm just now getting back to the computer--contrary to what you may believe, I don't sit here typing all day!!!

I am expecting another child. As Shannon said, you can read all about it at my Frugal Hacks post today about saving money during pregnancy:

Now any car you have must accommodate 2 baby carseats and a booster seat (or whatever you call the seats that kids must use until 7 or 8). I don't have little ones so don't know if 3 carseats will fit into an ordinary backseat. Is that going to be an issue?

Congrats, Meredith! Glad I saw this one, that's wonderful and how fun to live in the same city with lots of other mom bloggers. I just met up with one of my online blog friends who I've known for years last week in FL & it was a blast.

Most cars will hold some combination of three car seats. It's just a matter of testing it out until you find what works.

Check out http://www.car-seat.org for a bunch of people that really know what they are talking about whgen it comes to car seats. A lot of them have puzzled out three-seat situations, multiple times (There are a lot of techs on the boards)

As the parent of a kindergartener in Portland, Oregon, I have been concerned about traffic safety - particularly around schools and playgrounds.

I've noticed that these places are often the scene of accidents because they are where parents are dropping off and picking up kids – oftentimes in a hectic rush.

They are also where newly licensed drivers en mass are navigating through sites heavy with pedestrians and other distractions.

I did a bit of research on the subject and want to share a website I found. It offers really useful information on what we as parents can do to increase neighborhood traffic safety.

They have lots of information on the effectiveness of various methods used to slow traffic and even a section on getting federal, state and private grants for these kinds of neighborhood safety projects. If you’re interested, I strongly suggest you check out www.stopspeeders.org.
