Picnic boxes to go

Monica of Homespun Heart works her magic again! Check out Monica's beautiful girls' night menu, packaged picnic boxes, and chalkboard plates. Paired with a display easel, the chalkboard menu plates would make a great handmade gift.

I couldn't find throwaway containers last time I made picnic lunches for a few special people. I ended up buying 50 cents' worth of olives and cheese at the Kroger salad bar in order to acquire the plastic clamshell containers.

Have to scramble this morning--just found out my brother is coming for the weekend, my mother invited 25 people (who haven't seen my house) here to a "welcome home" lunch.

When I prepare for unexpected guests, I always wish I had "Mary Poppins' magic".

I'm looking forward to seeing some "Meredith Magic" as you play the hostess with the mostess (most grace, that is!).

It's going to be spectacular!

Ack!

Nothing like spur of the moment entertaining. . . . And isn't it just like a brother not to give you heads up that they will be in town?? Men.

Have you tried asking them at the deli if they will sell you some of the containers? My mom did this for school lunches when her children were going to school.

God bless you with your attitude on entertaining spur-of-the-moment. I do not think I would take to it so kindly though, especially since it is someone else's idea.

I am sure you will do a beautiful job though, and it will be a frugal and lovely success!

Meredith - thank you for your kind words and including me in your post.

I know that you will come up with something wonderful that makes your guests feel welcome. You are so good at sharing hospitality, I know they will be blessed and refreshed.

Wow-- I hope someday I can be as gracious as you about being a spur of the moment hostess to 25 people and having to serve them lunch. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with. Don't forget to take pictures of your buffet before the eating begins. ; )
(Yeah, I know... one more thing you'll have to remember to do)

Get out the Dukes and make up some chicken salad and deviled eggs.
Fresh apples make a nice edible centerpiece and apples are in season now.

This doesn't have much to do with this post, but I thought you and your readers may find it interesting. I was at Target the other day and the man in front of me was buying 50 cans of tuna. Then he gave the cashier 50 coupons printed out from their gift registry kiosk(didn't know you could do that) and got each can for 20 cents. $10 and some change and he had himself 50 cans of tuna. The name brand kind also.
I think it pays to see what store coupons you can print out there.

I read about how your blog buddy covered Sonic boxes with scrap book paper and used them for serving boxes for her get together. Great idea. I got our local pizza place to give me several of their boxes. I asked to pay for the boxes, but because we are loyal customers they gave me the boxes for free. I too covered the boxes to make them 'neat' and 'pretty' on my shelf...I keep my quilt strips in the boxes. I like to cut the quilt out all at one time..that means many many different strips, small pieces etc. I can put them in these clean pizza boxes and take them any where to work on the quilt when I have time. I do some hand piecing when we travel, a pizza box fits under the seat of our car so it is not in the way...just an idea I thought I would pass on to you fellow crafters. Roxie
