Flavored vegetable water

Sarah suggested I use my thrifted Tupperware pickle box for crisper cut carrots and celery. It's worked beautifully! Right now, I am chilling pepper strips to serve with hummus.

The water even takes on the flavor of the vegetables. Now I use the flavored water when I boil chicken for broth. Waste not, want not!

I love to flavor drinking water with cucumber slices - maybe it isn't the only yummy vegetable drinking water.

I never thought of using the veggie water for anything other than soup stock. I have saved it before and used it as soup starter. I bet it would work great for the chicken. Thanks so much for the idea. Roxie

My mom always used this as a vegetable crisper. I actually didn't know that there was another purpose originally for it :)

I guess I never took home ec. So do you soak the cut veggies in water to make them crisp?

hmmm... so do you make your own hummus too?

I'm so glad I found your site! I'm going to enjoy this blog for sure. Frugality is something I'm really working on, especially since I'm married to a man with steak taste on a hotdog budget (and I do mean that with food). Thankfully, hubby does have great money management skills which are rubbing off on me, including pay cash forget the credit. I'm also adopting make do or do without as well.

Hello. May I ask where you got this particular Tupperware? I'm looking to purchase.
