My camera batteries died after one photo. Reaching for the second set, I realized...they are still plugged in the charger in the hotel eight hours away. Must not be my week! Anyway, someone brought us a pineapple straight from Hawaii. It smells so fresh and sweet. Andrew wanted to paint it. We picked an old frame from the garage. I cut a piece of cardboard to fit inside and took out our four little tubes of paint. We observed the pineapple's colors and shapes (a large oval with circles all over it, curves for the leaves). He had fun mixing shades of green with yellow and brown. I hung it over the turnip he painted a few weeks ago. He loves seeing his artwork on the kitchen wall, and so do I.
You'll notice the pile of gelatin molds on the counter. Other than the occasional use, they sit forlornly in my cabinet. I'm planning to display them as part of a kitchen Christmas. Do you have pretty kitchenware packed away you can use for a frugal ornaments or accents?

I like the jelly moulds, I have several as well and try and vary the items that decorate my kitchen, din't think of jelly moulds though ! Its gingerbread themed china for December !

Just trimmed the holly this week and making urns of the trimmings for our business's entry and our own home entry.

Andrew's paintings are exceptional! (also former high school art teacher here) I would love to see a close up when camera is back in working order. He has your eye for composition, color, and detail.
I also decorate (year round) with natural objects. I have a wonderful collection of birdnests, abandoned ones, of course. I am amazed at the variety and intricacy. All vacation souveniers are an interesting rock which I display in handmade pottery along with nests, pods, wasp nests, etc. I think decorating is one of the most personal and satisfying of pursuits!

Recently I was looking through an old book of mine. It's a Mary Englebreight Christmas book. She had an old mold on a plate with a sprig of greenery and an old-fashioned Christmas card. Also, the current Martha Stewart holiday magazine uses these same molds for home-made soap and bath fizzies. It's interesting to see what a creative mind can come up with using things we all have around the house.
