Camping meals-in-a-bag

My husband was asked on a last-minute fishing trip. I scrambled to find enough camping food to send him on his way. I placed each meal's ingredients in a Ziploc bag for convenience:

Dinner: 2 frozen turkey Kielbasa, a foil package of sliced peppers and onions, 2 low carb wraps
Breakfast: 2 frozen sausage patties sealed in plastic (to thaw in boiling water), two packs of Bear Naked oatmeal
Beverages: hot cocoa, coffee, cider

Meredith,

What a great idea! Your husband must appreciate all of your efforts. I'm going to keep this idea tucked away in the back of my mind for the next time my husband gets asked on a last minute camping trip. Thanks for sharing!

Do you have a food sealer? Or did you buy the sausage sealed? Just wondering to note for future trips!
thanks!

You can probably tell my husband loves sausage.

No, I did not seal the sausage patties. I don't think the sealing machines are worth it.

These are precooked sausage patties that come pre-sealed and frozen--my husband bought them on clearance. He dropped the package of 2 in hot water to thaw while his oatmeal was cooking.

Likewise, the kielbasa was a reduced-for-quick-sale special that we froze for later. I put it into the cooler frozen so it would thaw while he fished.

Meredith - I'm using the ziploc bag isea in my freezer as I try to get meals prepared for AB (after baby). It keeps the ing. together for each meal. So no one eats the hash browns that I mean to cook with the keilbasa:)

What a great idea, especially with slicing the onions and peppers ahead of time. If we ever go camping again, I'll be sure to use your idea!

Hmmm. I do like the idea of using the ziplock bags for cooking. I've never tried it, tho' I did use some bags like that when I was on vacation overseas recently, but for keeping pens and stuff. I guess I can learn to boil water, lol. ;-)
