Tea room at home

My mom loves the salad plates at traditional southern tea rooms. Since we couldn't afford to treat everyone to a birthday lunch out, I recreated her favorite menu at home:

Tomato and romaine platter with tuna, pecan chicken, and curried egg salads
Fresh fruit skewers
Hot french cheese toasts
Peach sherbet with cream wafer cookies

I mixed fern fronds and seashells for a no-cost centerpiece. The table was laid with a square of yard sale fabric. My mom was so pleased with the summery result!

My last job was for a caterer/restaurant and the salad plate was our most popular item. You could get 3 mini scoops (chix, tuna, crab, egg and ham salad choices) pasta salad, fruit and a muffin. We also did fruit skewers on the deli toothpicks for catering, they are pretty but get on your nerves after you make a 100 or so. I love to see people create favorites at home.

What lovely plating, and it all sounds so delicious. I'm sure your mother was honored to have such a wonderful and thoughtful birthday luncheon.

Meredith - This is gorgeous and such a great idea! I've been toying with the idea of hosting a ladies luncheon at church, but I kept putting it off - not sure if I wanted to put in the effort this close to baby day. I'm totally inspired now though! Hope you don't mind me stealing your great ideas! :)

Really nice. You do a lovely presentation.

It's hot here today, so maybe I'll try a pecan chicken salad for dinner. Could whip up some egg salad too, so the family has a choice.

Cribbing off you ... again.

Just wondering.... did you plate all the food before hand? Or did you have guests take it off serving platters.
