Finding discount groceries

Someone on Prairie Homemaker's "5 and Dime" board shared this link to United Grocery Outlet's location list. I really miss my old Turrentine's salvage store and wish there were a Grocery Outlet a little closer!

We used to have a Grocery Outlet here in our town and State but they closed down after 14 years here.

I have done so many searches for a grocery outlet store in Texas. Never have found one. I have googled. I have looked in every phone book when we travel, I just wish I could find one here in Texas for canned goods etc. I shop Sam's club, Costco, and Walmart for canned goods for this day care, but I wish I could do better. Thanks for your wonderful blog. You always inspire me to try something new. I am going to be looking at wild flowers differently now. Thanks. Roxie in Texas

Boy you people in the south seem to have all the great outlets - no such luck up here in the north! No outlets up here except for bread. RATS! Lynn Marie

I shop the one in Knoxville very often. It is a great store. Last time we were there we picked up Stove Top Stuffing 2/$1, Breyers Yogurt 4/$1, a Friendly's Ice Cream cake for $2, $2 Bocca pizzas for my veggie daughter, and various other assorted goodies. We have shopped there for over 10 years. I don't know if all the stores are as good as ours but we love it.

Too bad there are none in SC!! We have one grocery outlet in our town that sometimes has good stuff. I say sometimes because almost all the expiration dates are way past. I have found some great bargains there though that weren't past the pull date. Big bags of pretzels 2/$1, Kraft ranch dressing for 50 cents a bottle and Mott's individual applesauce-6 pack for 60 cents.

We had one here in SouthCarolina where I lived it just closed down before I moved to this area. It had been open here for 14 year plus. They decided they no longer needed this store s they closed it down.

I share your sentiment regarding missing your little Turrentine Grocery Store! I am Rodney Bates' (owner of Turrentines) oldest daughter and boy do I miss walking into those old red doors, leaving the hussle and bussle of fast paced world behind for the time you are in the doors of our take you back in time grocery store. We miss all of our customers very much and were very blessed to have each one of them walk across our wooden floors, leaving footprints in our lives that we will never forget! Thank you for mentioning our home away from home, country store in the city.
God Bless you,
