Cheese In Action!

Here is a fantastic site with detailed photo instructions for making your own cheese press, all types of cheeses, yogurt, wheat bread and more!

All demonstrations are low tech (no yogurt maker needed.) The author, a biology professor, also includes the science behind the process, making it a great teaching tool for your kids.

Reminds me of my favorite college course of all time--microbiology, in which our incredible professor introduced the semester with a cheese tasting and incredible stories about the bacteria behind each variety.

Meredith,

Thank you so much for the "cheese" site! I cannot wait to make my own buttermilk and sour cream. I have been spending a fortune on both! I love your blog.

I have been wanting to try some cheesemaking-as a matter of fact I got a bunch of recipes for it from MichelleCarr over at the frugal living forum at about.com. I just haven't been brave enough to try yet.

Have you actually tried any of these? I'd love to hear how it worked out.

No, Jenn, I haven't tried them yet. I don't have an inexpensive source of fresh or raw milk, so I can buy some of these products already made for less than making them. I was just so excited to find such a fabulous site, I didn't wait to share it here!

What a great site! I already make my own yoghurt, chenna and panir, and have only been holding off on hard cheeses because I don't have a cheese press. But I DO have the makings for the cheese press described by this site!

Oh, and what I call panir, the site calls labneh.

Errr...no. Panir is panir. What I call chenna, he calls labneh.
