Wishful Thinking

We've had the greatest weekend!

Saturday we used our free tickets to the Home Show, where we learned about some new remodeling products, witnessed the amazing Vitamix blender in action, and put ourselves on annoying marketing lists in order to win prizes.

We ran in the library on our way to the car and picked up Gosford Park. I've been meaning to watch it for a while now, and I was so pleased that the reality docudrama Manor House had taught me a little about "below stairs" heirarchy.

Free tickets, home stuff, library trip, and better-than-average-film watched with husband--could my weekend get any more exciting?

It did.

My Air Force brother flew back in. He would like to buy a small vacation home in Tennessee, as it looks like he'll be stationed in Europe for a while, followed by Korea.

(If you could see the beautiful yellow house he rents in a tiny village, you'd be wondering why he wants a cabin here!)

We drove to the Dale Hollow Lake area for a day of fishing and househunting. Of course, I was the one completely smitten by this ramshackle historic home. It has a lot of charm and land for the price. I've been daydreaming about it all day!

When my husband completes his thesis and learns his new job, he would love to transition to a more rural district. Even he agrees that, in the right area, a historic home with a small bed and breakfast clientele would be perfect for me.

Now it's just a few more years of wishful thinking away...

Postscript: anyone who clicks on the historic home listing should note that the interior photos are a textbook example of what you DON'T want your house to look like when it's on the market. My brother nearly choked at all that stuff---most people just don't have enough imagination to see *through* the clutter.

Liked Gosford Park. Interesting mystery. Christy of Mountain Mama has a B&B. Although you're years away from it, she could probably give you some insider info. She's very nice.

Wow, I want that house. In Connecticut that price wouldn't get you a garage, let alone a house with land.

We went to the Big E yesterday, the Northeast's version of the state fair. My 12 yo son and I sat through a long Vitamix demo, too. Even though I have the one I got at the yard sale, he didn't realize all it could do. It was a ton of fun! Plus now he's motivated too make fruit sorbet, and he was even willing to add the carrots!

We just checked out Gosford Park a few weeks ago. Great minds and all that. :) It was an interesting film and neat cinematographically, but we'd hoped the murder wouldn't be so easy to figure out.

Sounds like a great weekend. From what I know of you from your blog I can see you doing a great job at a b&b. Like mothersong, I too am amazed at the price. We live in Sacramento, CA which used to be affordable, and though it still is compared to San Francisco & LA, it is rapidly becoming more expensive than almost everywhere else! I have a friend looking to buy in Tenn. right now and she was telling me how pretty AND affordable it is, now I can see what she means.

This house was truly in the middle of nowhere. I'm just hoping my brother finds something that I can help him decorate, hint, hint :)

If I ever do run a B&B, I'm giving you all free coupons for a night's stay. Wouldn't that be fun?

I will gladly come and stay at your future B&B. Tenneessee is our favorite state to visit so beautiful, but not so much different from home. That place definitely has possibilities. The land was just gorgeous. It does look like a nice place to relax!
