Welcome, strep throat

Andrew tested positive this morning. New toothbrushes for everyone!

This Dr. Sears article can help moms determine when a sore throat is just a sore throat or something more serious.

Oh no. Sorry about the strep! Hope it passes quickly!

On another topic, I love the colors in this photo.

Please take strep VERY seriously. I had heart damage from strep (it can also damage kidneys). Never hesitate to take a child to the doctor if you suspect strep - it is not worth the risk. I sure hope the sweet baby does not get it.

Strep is terrible! I had it this spring, passed to my by my 2 year old. It is very painful! I needed vicotin to be able to swallow. So, I don't believe the website when it says its uncommon for under age 3. My 2 year old has had it twice this year.

Sorry to hear about his Strep. I will pray for a peaceful and happy week. I just added your blog to kindred spirits on my blog. Your pictures are always so lovely to look at.

oh strep....it is so deceiving. last winter i almost lost my perfectly healthy 2 year old to a flu/strep combo. we were in the doctors office at 11 am with a strep diagnosis...started the antibiotics...and by 5 pm we were at the emergency room being lifeflighted to a pediatric hospital. they said we were within hours of watching her die. the doctors told us becasue of the overuse of antibiotics (she had never even had antibiotics in her whole life!) they are seeing a huge increase in the strep virus mutating and becoming deadly. just watch your sweet babe and if anything feels wrong...trust your instincts. i am so grateful i did.

I hope he feels better soon!

I'm very prone to strep and usually get it at least once a year. If anybody near me gets it, I usually catch it as well. I have a whole drawer filled with Walgreens FAR and free after coupons toothbrushes. :)

The year I was a substitute teacher and around small children all day, I had it seven times! I was nearly held back in 5th grade because I had it four times and missed so much school.

I feel for the poor little guy, but usually he'll feel better in a day or so with the antibiotics. :)

Poor little Andrew. Popsickle time for him. I always just place our toothbrushes in the dishwasher. That santizes them nicely if you don't want to purchase more.

Blessings,

Sher

Sorry to hear about the strep...

I'm sure you weren't really looking to hear all the horror stories...remember that most cases do not turn into the worst case scenarios...

Hope your son is well soon and that no one else gets it.

Hope he feels better soon. It's hit our house, too, and I'm counting the minutes until I get it also.

Quick note...my son used to get strep all the time. 2 years ago he had it 7 times and never had a fever. You can read all the guidelines, but your best bet is to go with your gut feeling. I would make an appointment and the Dr would say they would do a strep test but they doubted it would come back positive and guess what? I was always right :-)Mommys know their children.

Oh, no! I hope Strep did not bring friends. There is a lot of sickness going around right now, including a nasty stomach virus. We're hoping to avoid that one, for sure!

That is one thing our family has never had - ST!
I'll bring your family soup today (I wish!)

I read the article you linked to and yes, it is rare to get rheumatic fever from strep but it happened to me. My heart and joints were damaged, so my advice is see your doctor for every sore throat. It simply is not worthing taking a risk. I think people are much too casual about strep. It can have terrible and lasting - my heart valve damage was permananet - effects, so don't play around with strep. A trip to the doctor may be inconvenient and expensive but your child is so worth it!

By all means--trust your instinct and your doctor instead of an internet article!

However, my kids have allergies and the drainage frequently gives them sore throats. for me, it's a constant challenge to determine when it's just a sore throat. I found the article helpful in that regard.

Our pediatrician's office asks us to bring them in for strep tests WHEN they have (1) run a fever (2) developed a rash or (3) vomited.

I missed this one somehow--sure do love the picture! My trees are having pretty color ON the tree but brown by the time they fall. Hope Andrew is feeling better and glad to get all this info on strep.

Came by to catch up with you. We went to the Dr. for what I thought was going to be strep throat. New virus here in Utah. Looks like strep and acts like it. But it is a weird viral infection.
