Polished and perfumed

Phase 3 of the Frugal Frump experiment is now complete. How many months was I out of perfume, anyway?

I was buying barrettes at Family Dollar when this Avenue perfume caught my eye. It's a spicy blend of rose and citrus, and the price was right: only $3.

My best tip for shopping discount and dollar stores:

Look for major brand names hidden among the made-for-$1 products. If body products are manufactured for Greenbrier International? Keep on walkin'.

A bottle of perfume last me.. like .. years! I ran out of my last bottle almost a year ago. (It cost me about $ 30 over 3 years ago) Now I've been using "sweet pea" from bath and body works.. I can get a small body spray for under $3 on sale - it lasts for 6 months at least! Sweet picture, btw.

I've been wearing the same perfume for 10 years (maybe longer) and I love it. I haven't been able to wear it since pregnant...with my super sniffer it starts to get to me. I look forward to wearing perfume again so I'll have to keep my eyes open for new scents.

Good buy. Sometimes perfume gives me a headache so I do splurge on good perfume when it fits me. I don't wear it everyday but when I do I feel so feminine.
While I would love and use any Greenbrier if it was gifted to me- I bypass that also. I have a drawer full of hubby's hotel soaps to use until I get some nice stuff.

I've gotten some great deals from finding hidden name brands! The Big Lots on the big N had Beaudreaux's Butt Paste (1 oz tubes) for $0.27 a while back. I bought a whole bunch that day.

haha. Yes, Greenbrier is definitely a red flag for me at the thrift shops. Especially when the item costs MORE than a dollar!!! I feel sorry for the people who ignorantly buy that stuff.

I love doing that. We have a Home Goods Store near us and I love going in and finding things like GapBody bath salts, originally $25 for a buck.

I'm clueless about the brand Avenue. Is this something you have worn before and know you like? I am assuming if this is a brand name that $3 had to be a super deal. Lucky you if stumbled onto your fragrance!

Hi Meredith--

I'm probably missing something, but what/who is Greenbrier International?

That's a great find! I would have never recognized that name. (You are so good at that!)

I second this one! We don't have Dollar General here but we do have Grocery Outlet which is my source for treats like snack foods, baking mixes, frozen entrees and also some great deals on HBC (health & body care) items--i.e. $3 for two bottles of Jason (expensive health food store brand) body wash.

HAVE A WONDERFUL TRIP!

Someone asked what the "Greenbrier" products are...they are products that are made for the Dollar Tree and are just cheap. You should never pay more than $1 for these items if found in other stores. Personally I have found these products to be of 'very little' to 'no quality'.

Has anyone out there had any luck with any of them?

I think Meredith is referring to the fact that Greenbriar International is th brand from the Dollar Tree. Therefore, Greenbriar products should never cost more than $1.
