I've resolutely avoided the after-Christmas sales this year. When I ran in Dollar General, though, I couldn't resist checking out the 75% off selection.
Hallmark recordable holiday memory albums for $1.25? Two, please!
The kids and I have had a ball selecting our favorite photos, drawing on the blank pages, and best of all, recording and playing back 10 silly greetings, ad infinitum.
A January surprise for the grandmothers!

How wonderful for the Grandmas! I'm just amazed at what you find, Meredith. And you're right; I hardly think it's coincidence, either!
Have a blessed day.
You find the best stuff. I am tempted to hit my Dollar General and see if they have any at our branch. I am trying so hard to stay out of the stores though...thus, no thrifty treasures to report :)
As a grandmother of 4 myself I can tell you that these will be a real treasure for many years to come. After my own dear grandmother passed away I went through her things. I was amazed to find letter I had written her when I was just 6 years old; pictures I had drawn, and of coarse the many many pictures she had taken of me as a child...there too were the things that I had sent to her of MY sons growth. I am 56 now, I know that the children do not stay children long enough. So what I am trying so hard to say is that YOU are blessing the grandparents with these albums. The sweet recordings of a child's voice, the pictures of the sweet face, and the time you spent to pull this together will be a great treasure to the grand parents. Roxie
What a deal! The Grandmothers will love it!
I picked up 4 of these myself a couple of days ago. I could not belive that they were only a 1.25. If they had had more, I probably would have bought them. I figured it would make great Christmas presents for Grandparents next year. And we have a few sets of those. Hey I might check the local one here now that I am moved....... Amy
Neither grandma does "new technology" like the computer, so I'm excited about finding something more interactive than a simple photo.
Roxie and Ernestine, I admire you grandmothers who have taken the time to keep up with the times! You are making it easy for your children and grandchildren to communicate with you : )
I think MY grand children keep me young. I know I am thrilled when they sit with me and show me how something works..I get to know them (the child) better and see how their mind works..I also learn alot. My grandson Gavin, is 7, he turns 8 in Feb. has showed me many things on the computer. He amazes me. My youngest grandson Evan, 5, will be 6 in Feb. shows me how to play his video games. He takes great pride in showing me these things. I think it helps them learn more too. If you can teach someone to do something then YOU have learned the lesson well. My own dear grandmother only got through the 3rd grade. Her mother pulled her out of school at 9 to work in the cotton fields. She always pushed me to be educated. So I try to never stop learning. My grandmother was a 'teacher' in the best way. She did not know she was teaching, but she was. She was a wonderful example of a grandmother. I hope to be just half as good to my grand children.
Thanks for the blog Meredith. As always it is a breath of fresh air. Take care of those babies. They will be adults before you turn around. Roxie
My husband and I were having dinner at a shop in the mall Friday night and I wandered over to Old Navy to see if they had any pants for Lily (all of hers are sadly floods) and they had a sale rack marked off 75% off the sale price. I got four outfits, a jacket and a sweatshirt (none of them with the nasty logo on the front) for $30. I was cheering adn whooping it up and my husband just didn't understand my excitement. I had to explain that it's the same rush a big game hunter gets--coming back from the hunt with a fabulous kill.
Wow, no Dollar General's here though. I saved coke bottle caps (the drinks are donated by the local coke bottler for our meetings) and used them to get a free Kodak Calendar. I decided to make 2, one for each set of grandparents. Both sets are computer literate, but still loved having a calendar of the kids.
What a great project!!
well, I am going to stop by our Dollar General today after work!
I hope they have these at my DG. I have 5 in my area to check. Thanks for the heads up!
