I put together some flowers for two birthdays today. This one cost less than $4, including wooden bowl with floral foam, an Aldi bouquet, and roadside greenery. Gala apples on sticks are an inexpensive way to blend the red and yellow tones.
To me, September is too early for pumpkins and orange leaves. September is warm apples and golden flowers.

Meredith, these are lovely. I have great fondness for your flower arrangements because that is how I first discovered your blog-- I believe they were arrangements you made for your husband's coworkers last Christmas. I was do impressed, and I straightaway e-mailed a link to my sister.
This is lovely, all red and gold. The recipients will surely be honored by their beauty/
I agree about September being too early for pumpkins. The apples are perfect, though. I think, especailly in the South, it's just still a little too warm - we have to ease into fall around here.
I love the color choices! We are pumpkin nuts over here, but maybe because of the weird Midwest weather :) This is really beautiful!
Meredith, how beautiful! You amaze me with your creativity! I have to confess something -- even though I've only commented a few times, I read you daily and have been thinking of you much this afternoon. My daughters and I made cut out sugar cookies and decorated them today as thank you gifts for their swim teachers (indoor lessons at our local college). I realized too late that I did not have paper plates to put them on, so I cut up a cereal box from the recycling into 2 squares, covered each with colored construction paper, placed cookies on, and wrapped in saran wrap. Voila! Instant disposable cookie trays:) Thanks for all your inspiration!
I had to smile at you saying September is too early for pumpkins and orange leaves. Around here, some of the trees are already bare. We have even had a light dusting of snow. The arrangement you made is beautiful. What a lovely gift.

Very pretty! I have to ask: Did you ever take a flower-arranging class, or does this just come naturally to you?
Beautiful birthday gift! Golden flowers describes our September too here in Sacramento. In fact, the yellow cosmos I planted from seed in May are just now blooming and I can't wait to make a bouquet.
Beautiful! I made some flower arrangements for my home.
Lovely!
No, I'm an unskilled amateur. I just like to make a pretty combination of colors, and people seem so happy to get fresh flowers, I don't think they really mind my lack of training!
I would like to become a member of a garden club and have formal understanding of line and form. But, I don't think many contemporary garden clubs would welcome me with a one-year-old in tow!
Maybe one day.
Wow, so lovely.

Had to come back and comment-- I LOVED Celina's idea of a list of the months of the year with frugal arrangement ideas-- brilliant!
Love that arrangement--especially the apples. That does seem most appropriate for this early in the wonderful autumn season. Those of us in the south still have a lot of hot days ahead of us.
Just wanted to say that I really enjoy reading your blog. Appreciate your tips.
Question for you: Do you plan to home school or send your child to a traditional school? Or have you thought about that yet? Just curious.

Ahhh...apples. They are so beautiful with the golden colors. You're so right about September.
Thank you for the beautiful pictures, and the encouraging inspiration.
