Make your own fireworks
The Pleasant Times tells us how to make our own "matchless fireworks"--shiny things that you can toss in the air, wave to catch the light, or twirl on a breeze. My kids are terrified by loud BANGS, so we'll definitely be tackling these firecrackers in the heat of the afternoon.

What a good idea. I hated fireworks as a child and would watch through my bedroom window (the 4th is also my brother's birthday!). I still am not that enamored of them.
