Yard sale Wedgewood

A complete set of Wedgewood Festivity for 12 = $25. One place setting retails for $54 at Replacements, Ltd. Selling this will put a dent in cost of our new passports.

  1. What a find!! Congratulations!! Isn't it great when God provides such a find for you to resell just when you were feeling the passport pinch?? Cool!

  4. How did you learn what would sell? I would love to buy things like this and resell them, but I would not have known when I saw those dishes that they would likely resell. I've resold a few things, but I have not had the luck you had! How do you know? I would love to see a post on that topic!

  5. Love the dishes! I'd keep them.

Recently I found my china set, Mikasa-Classic Flair, at a garage sale for $8. It was a five five piece place setting. On the Mikasa website they were retailing for $40 a place setting and Replacements was like $54. My set included a sugar bowl which I didn't have.

    Don't you love garage sales!!

  6. I upgraded this way. I found a large service that I really liked so I sold the set I had bought new. Because the newer set was discountinued and hard to find,I sold it at a profit that paid for the new dishes. I don't like shipping china though.

  7. Meredith, I'm amazed at your yard sale finds. Congrats. The practical side of me has to ask...what are the tax considerations when buying and reselling for profit?

  8. I'm with anonymous-- How do you resale? How do you know it will sell well? I know there is some risk involved, and that's where I freeze up. I try to do what you do when I go thrift shopping- find something that I can sell that will make up for my purchase, but I just don't know how to go about it. Please help us, oh great thrift one ;]!

  9. I will try to make another post this week about criteria for buying things. Basically, I don't have any secret knowledge or rules except for my own intuition.

Start with something you know, like children's items. I remembered the cost of Wedgewood from my own experience registering for my wedding. I knew $25 was a steal!

  10. It's the re-selling part I don't get. My mother and I found some steak knives at Goodwill (25 cents each) that resale for $54 each! But who wants to buy them? No one was buying then from ebay...how do you *resale* is my ultimate question for you, Meredith! :]
