Searching for a particular post?

I'm not happy with my unwieldy blog archives. You can see each month's posts in the current calendar year, but when you look at previous years, you must go through page by laborious page. Same with the category tags and for people who Googled a particular phrase. Why don't individual posts--or titles of individual posts--appear instead?
