Make it last: shoe shine

I noticed my favorite boot black polishing his new Rockports. I asked why. Apparently, even brand new shoes benefit from a protective topcoat. A few light polishes over the first weeks of wear build up a base that seals raw leather from scratches. It's making your shoes last, before they even begin to wear.

If your tightwad alarm beeps when you read "new shoes," let me tell you our favorite new place: Marti and Liz Shoes. We once stopped whenever we were in Murfreesboro, but the Cool Springs location is much more convenient. They resell sample and returned shoes from department stores. Lucky for us, we've found extra-large AND wide Rockports for under $35. Beat that, Ebay.

No alarms going off here. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do. Or sometimes you have to do what you WANT to do. I've had to buy things new. I'd prefer it used, but life doesn't always work out that way.
It sounds to me like you're a very thrifty, frugal, wise steward of the things the Lord gave you.

I would have never thought of that. That is really good to know. I am afraid when I get my shoes over at Goodwill though, someone probably didn't think of that.

The deals you get on shoes are great. I love outlet shopping and getting great deals like that.

Well, my own shoes come from Goodwill's 99 cent days, but the husband's size is much harder to find.

As someone with lifelong foot and ankle problems, I see nothing wrong with spending a reasonable amount on shoes that fit properly and aren't worn into someone else's wear patterns. Even if you don't have foot problems, it could be preventative.

I agree with Rebecca, sometimes good shoes are worth the Full price if you know they will last a long time, fit well, and are of good quality. I by Birkenstock sandals full price because with a little care I know I can get 8-10 YEARS out of them.
