Dollar General bargains: generic Claritin

I love Dollar General stores like Amy loves Aldi. Despite its low-rent image, DG has true bargains amidst the junk. Don't forget its wide selection of greeting cards 2 for a dollar, or grab-and-go snacks that make gas stations look like highway robbers.
I've written before about DG's cheap, over-the-counter generics. Last night my husband asked me to pick up more generic Claritin. A 30 tablet supply of Walgreen's loratidine was priced $16 ON SALE.(Name brand Claritin, $22). Dollar General's price for 30 tablets? $3. It's hard to believe the difference. Walmart may have a similar price, but I love being able to pop in and out of DG without the hassle. This trip I stocked up on a few more bargains, like 32 oz natural peanuts, $2, and frozen boneless skinless chicken tenders, $1.34/lb. This particular DG stocks groceries, too.

I had never been to the Dollar General Market before our move to Pleasant View. It's a great little store! I'm also thrilled to have an Aldis nextdoor to our new YMCA in Springfield - hooray for cheap groceries!

That's better even than Target, where I get 100 tablets for $15. I'll have to see if we have a DG around here. I take them daily, so that would be quite a cost savings over an entire year.

I am a frequent reader, but this is my first time to comment.
I had to write to thank you for sharing about generic Claritin at DG. My husband has recently started taking Claritin, and while it helps him tremendously, I have hated to buy it at such enormous prices. DG is a favorite store of mine already...I pop in at least once a week if not more. I'll add this to my list of things to check on in my neighborhood store. Thanks again. Love your blog!

You crack me up- thanks so much for the mention, Meredith! I appreciate it a bunch.

I am going to check out my Dollar General now. Thank you so much for that tip. We waste so much money on cold and flu medicine so I will have to take a peek at ours.

You made my day!!

There's also Dollar General's cousin stores, Family Dollar, which is what we have in our neighborhood. What's great is that in addition to their already cheap prices, you can use coupons to save more!

I still price-watch the sales and combine them with coupons at CVS, Target and Walgreens (all four are within walking distance of me), but when you need something in a pinch that's not on sale elsewhere, Family Dollar is great!
