Library Bag: Holding pattern

So, how many of you have Martha Stewart's Homekeeping Handbook on hold at the library? I'm number 18. It will have to be excellent to top Cheryl Mendelson's exhaustive Home Comforts: The Art and Science of Keeping House.
Anyone have a great new book to suggest for my library list? Mine's at an all time low.

Last time I checked I was number 45! I did thumb through it at a bookstore though!

Hey, I have books! I always have books.

I recently reviewed Harvest For Hope and Lunch Lessons on my blog. Both very good food reads.

I just finished Water From the Well, Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel and Leah. Excellent book, uses direct Old Testament text, plus Jewish oral tradition and stories to build a human picture of the matriarchs and their world.

Also good is The Faith Club, A Muslim, A Christian and A Jew, Three Women Search for Understanding.

Peace Like a River by Leif Enger is one of my all-time favorite books. I've read it at least twice in the last couple of years--it says a lot if I read a novel more than once. The writing and story are just excellent. It's a story with a definite, honest Christian influence but done in such a realistic way. It kind of reminds me of To Kill a Mockingbird--coming of age, a father, son and daughter (absent mother) and the father is trying to teach the children by example. I can't say enough. Read this book!

One I think you'd enjoy is The Walls Around Us by David Owen. I know the library has it, because I just returned it.

"Hungry Planet: What the World Eats" by Peter Menzel and Faith D'Aluisio. I saw this one mentioned on Making It Home blog and requested it at my library. Amazing book. Beautiful color pictures. The back cover says: "30 Families, 24 Countries, 600 Meals. 1 Extraordinary Book." I have just begun reading it. It really makes me appreciate what I have!!!

I just got that book and it is great! You will absolutely love it. I would also recommend her baking handbook (it is UNBELIEVABLE!). I also got Cheryl Mendelson's book of "Laundry" which I am anxious to read. I joined a home book type club and I thought it would be a great way to get myself a few Christmas gifts and some for others (of course).

Enjoy your reading!!
