Free hardwood scraps

All this talk about wooden toys reminded me of the free scrap pile at Madison Mills! Located just south of Charlotte Ave. on 42nd, this millwork factory dumps its high-quality hardwood "ends" and warped trim on the roadside--free for the taking! Someone with a woodstove and determination could probably heat a house with these. We gathered a bag to use as outside playtoys. I'm tired of wiping mud off LEGOs and action figures!

Isn't this photo classic "boy"? I'm tired of taking house pictures. If I can remember, I'll tuck the camera in my purse and get some shots as we go about our shopping and errands.

My brother-in-law did heat his basement this way - got his young children to stack the pieces for him - kept them busy for hours!
