That Sentimental Feeling

Above, Andrew as a newborn

I packed the camera already, so I thought I'd peek into the digital archives for today's photo. Thanks to Ann at Mommysecrets, I've been loading my memory card with 3 years of unprinted shots. She tipped me off to Kroger's upcoming digital photo sale, with 9-cent developing from digital media. I'm very good at developing and sending photos to relatives, but oh so bad about keeping hard copies for myself. I have a nice, plain set of archival albums in which to arrange the million-plus pictures I'm ordering. Instead of framing our favorites, we've been watching them as a constantly scrolling screensaver. (Besides having to dust all those frames, we try not to have personal photos anywhere when it comes time to sell a house.)

All in all, our basic digital camera has been one of our most frugal purchases to date. As new parents, we were bursting our budget with all those photos. We bought it for $100 at Best Buy's Black Friday sale. I love being able to edit down to the very best shot of a series. I love being able to take dozens of pictures so I can sometimes capture an image worth keeping.

That has to be one of the sweetest pictures I've ever seen! I love it! I think a good camera is a must for any parent. Those pictures will bring back so many wonderful memories in years to come. And frankly...I like them better than video. I do have videos, but when you are always holding that movie camera...you aren't part of the action. At least pictures are quick. And you're right...having enough photos to edit down to the best is great!

Okay, I totally thought you had the baby when the picture popped up!! :) We use our digital pics for a screen saver, too ... Noelle loves sitting there and looking at the pictures of herself roll across the screen!

Meredith,

I have been devouring your blog since I found it last night (Thank you, Frugal Village). I have finally come to a conclusion:

So young, and yet so wise.

Hope you can keep blogging after the new arrival.

Each month I create a new folder on the computer for my digital pictures. I take just about 500 pictures a month. At the end of the month I upload the file onto a CD. Write on the CD whats on there and keep them all in a CD album. I can print them out at any time, look at them on the DVD player, or the computer. ITs a great way to keep picture. IN an emergency I could grab one album and save all my pictures. I have also taken pictures of old pictures to keep this way. Nice gift for the children, a CD of all their own baby pictures.
