This spiral-bound collection of healthy kid snacks is a big hit in my house. The instructions are illustrated in steps with simple line drawings. Each facing page has a list of questions that encourage the child to observe the food and think about its use or history. Sometimes I'm not in the preschool mode when cooking, and these questions are great, age-appropriate prompts for discussion. The "Try This!" section has ideas for further exploration. Recipes range from coconut milk to hardtack to tortillas. Geared toward preschool to first graders, this book was originally distributed through Discovery Toys. Used copies start at $1.95, a bargain for the amount of fun we're having together in the kitchen!
Vicki from Mothersong has posted another list of good reads this week, as well.
