What To Do With Broccoli Stems

Frank from Grow Your Own Food demonstrates how to maximize $5 worth of organic broccoli.

People in my house refuse to eat the stems, or so they think!

Even with less expensive produce, we can't afford to be so wasteful. I add the tender hearts to stir fry and stop just short of calling them water chestnuts.

Thanks to Dawn at Frugal for Life for introducing me to this interesting blog. We aren't vegetarian, but we always need to eat more veggies.

We eat broccoli stems raw, and prefer them to the broccoli buds most people eat. I peel them to get rid of the tough, stringy part, and we eat the sweet, tender center. I learned this from my mother.=)
