Ever since I won a Piggly Wiggly ham in junior high, I've been crazy about contests. Though my losses far outnumber my wins, I can't help sending in my entries. At least it's something fresh to think about while I'm folding the laundry.
I only enter things which require an essay or idea. I figure I'm automatically in the top 50% just by following the entry rules and using good grammar!
Our local paper's Ms. Cheap holds a few contests for tightwad tips each year. I hastily emailed an entry for her "free summer fun" contest and won four movie passes in return!
If you're a contest lover, here are two books you'll love as well:
The Prize Winner Of Defiance Ohio is a memoir of the author's mother, whose resourcefulness amazed me.
I only hope if I were placed in her shoes, that I could trust God (and my pen) to help me provide for my family.
Cookoff: Recipe Fever In America is a fun insider's look at the people who win cooking contests and how they craft recipes to win big money--sometimes without even cooking the recipe at home first!
Check your local library for these fun yet inspiring books!

I so wanted to enter the Pillsbury Bake-off, but sadly I do not cook. :) I used to be an essay-short story-art contest fiend in elementary through high school.
I loved both of these books. I finished both of them and vowed to start winning stuff as soon as possible. Alas, life interferes.
I don't think it's too much of a spoiler to share with your previous commentor Kristin that apparently one needn't need to cook all that well or much to win the Bake-Off. That segment of Cook Off completely astonished me.
The movie Prizewinner of Defiance, Ohio was really great! I don't know how it compares to the book, but it hooked me!
Speaking of books, I think you have a potential book in this blog!
