Parks And Recreation

We're off to explore a couple of new (to us) playgrounds!

What fun, frugal things are you planning this weekend?

Our big excitement this weekend is going to Razorfest at the University of Arkansas. They have lots of activities, and we are invited to some kind of private party (oh la la!) so we will hang out and watch football. Yay! Have fun at the park!

We just got back from our town's Green Expo. Some of the booths had free raffles, and one booth had organic tee-shirts for $10! (marked down from $28) There were cows, sheep, chickens, and goats from a local farm. (Which my 2 year old went crazy over!) It was a fun time.

We're headed to the park with a potluck dish to join a moms group. Hoping the rain holds off!

We're sowing more seeds for our garden and playing in the backyard under the beautiful Carolina sky!

Yard sales!! We went to 11 yard sales, I spent 10 dollars and got fabric, shoes, picture frames, (big ones!) plants, three shirts, seven books, unused coloring books, a craft kit for thanksgiving, and two terra cotta flowerpots that are huge! Lots of fun, and everything was on my wish list. Yay!

We went to our first yard sales of the season this morning, but yesterday my 2 1/2 yr old and I went to a neighboring county's park for Farm Friday, lots of animals, games, a playground, pony and wagon rides, puppet show, etc. Lots of fun, and free! We did pay $5 for a season's parking pass, good for all of their county parks. There is lots of free or nominally priced entertainment at a wide variety of parks within a 20-30 minute drive, and we plan to take advantage of it this summer! There is also a great aquarium, zoo and children's museum nearby for special days. We have a family pass to the museum and are considering an aquarium pass.

We are enjoying staying at home and working on some much needed spring cleaning, planting a few things and just enjoying home. We have a little festival here next weekend and my daughter and her husband will be in town. Jackie

We have been rearranging closets and the shed and furniture for the impending arrival of baby no. 2. =) But I did get to some yard sales this morning and scored some great deals- a marble run for 50 cents, a nice mirror for $4, a pretty blue and white pitcher for a quarter, etc. It's been a busy day already, and we're having friends over to grill out tonight. It's beautiful weather here!

A family picnic last night! This morning, pulling weeds in the vegetable garden and harvesting some broccoli and onions for broccoli cheese soup that we just ate for dinner!

I thought of you this morning Meredith. We went to the Salvation Army thrift store and I always look around at the 'nick nacks' at they are called in the store. There was a beautiful set of blue and white china for $5.00. It was of coarse not a whole set but I think it was about 90% complete. We left there and went to check up on my mother. Then we hit WalMart to do the week's shopping. Then this afternoon I confess to just napping in my chair. I must get up and go do something for supper. We have had a lot of much needed and much appreciated rain yesterday and today. So with the mud we have not done much outside.

We did a lot of things this weekend...My husband and sons had a friend over who has a skid steer who helped them move an enormous pile of soil and sand. Then they put in a new culvert in our front ditch. THEN they went and cut wood all afternoon for next winter, and came home and unloaded it all!! They certainly did their share of work today!
The girls and I had a much more sedate day, but still busy. We did a million errands, went to Walmart, went to Sam's Club, and now we're home putting everything away. That's a job itself!
Hope you had a lovely day, Meredith!

Gorgeous weather in my neck of the woods this weekend - 81 degrees in Northern Virginia! We walked to the library for a used book sale - spent $12 and got at least 40 kids' books and a few others! Then just playing outside like the good ole' days - riding bikes, doing chalk on the sidewalk, and soaking up the sun!

We had a "potluck" style BBQ with friend on the back porch tonight! We used our free (from the classified ads) barbecue to grill the fish. Lots of laughs & good food. :)

I love those quilts in your photo!
Blessings,
Michele

we are observing the no screen time week. And since my 4 year old relies on me for too much entertainment, and I have felt all worn down by her testing lately, I am hoping we will make it. weather depending, we might do a tulip patch, art projects, and i have found that when i need to garden, she can occupy herself for a very long time with a ladybug, worm or other under the rock goodies.

Yesterday, took the children to the matinee to see a recent dreamworks movie - The whole family went - Cashed in a 25$ movie gift card - and had one in pocket that had 5 bucks on it -
30.50 for all 4 of us - and not one dime spent - all gifted! What a treat! Fed the kids before leaving - zero popcorn and jellybeans from easter in my purse kept them happy - :)

Today we are skipping church to catch up with spring cleaning - WORSHIP IN THE LIVING ROOM! It's a beautiful day and no trips to the grocery store today - work with what I Have in the freezer!

Remember spring cleaning as a child, when you mama made you 'flip' the mattress? Well, I told my 8 year old that we are taking it back 'old school' - she looked at me and said, 'uh oh.'
lol!

Wonderful post, Meredith - I live for the weekends with my fam!

latrice!

My kids love to visit the playgrounds of area elementary schools. Of course, you must do this on Saturdays or on school holidays.
