The birthday picnic that almost wasn't

Y'all gave such wonderful cupcake advice! It's a shame we were too tired to follow it.

For the record: I do not recommend the "put them on a tray and hope they make it" method.

Or the "leaving them in the hot sun until the buttercream separates" strategy.

Still, we had a lovely sandy playtime, earache and all.

And I finally found a use for this vintage fabric I've saved for years.

Please tell me where you found such a great little picnic spot! It looks so peaceful.

Elise's ponytail makes her look so grown-up. What a sweet little profile.

Happy birthday to Elise. Sure sorry she had an ear infection. A shame to feel bad on your 'big day' Looks like a wonderful time was had by all. The cup cakes look good if just a little messy. Roxie

Elise does look like a big girl with that ponytail:) ANd that fabric is gorgeous. It looks like y'all had a sweet time celebrating. I hope her ear is feeling better.

You make everything so pretty with your fabric peices! Do you finish the edges or just use them as is? If you leave them as is, don't they start to fray when you wash them?

I have that exact same glass tray!! I have had more people try to take it away from me. I love it and I use it for so many things!

Oh dear, I'm sorry that my transporting tip did not work... it's a risky one but so far I haven't encountered any problems. I'm thinking that I should learn from your experience and travel more carefully in the future!

Beautiful picnic spot! I'm glad it was a happy day despite the cupcake fiasco.

Modgirl, it's not you--it's me.

I probably hit those speed bumps in the park a tad too hard : )

Oh, for locals--it's the Percy Priest Lake Anderson Rd. recreation area.

A friend and I had arranged for our kids to play at the little beach there, so I decided to bring cupcakes and make it a little birthday celebration.

We really enjoy visiting there over the summer and at $4 a carload, it's not a bad deal.

Oh, I'm so sorry to read about your oopsies! But secretly I'm glad oopsies happen to people other than just me! Sometimes I feel like the oopsie queen. :)

Your picnic spot was beautiful - where were you guys?

Meredith, I was just looking at Notes From A Cottage Industry and she just baked some delightful cupcakes for a little girl's birthday with pink frosting and candy butterflies. I gotta have some of those butterflies! You could bake another batch of cupcakes with those cuties for any time for Elise. I think she and her friends (and their mothers!) would love them. I am sorry the cupcakes yesterday didn't travel well and the frosting melted. What kind of cupcakes were they? Did I detect chocolate chips or raisins, maybe?

Stuff like that happens to me all the time. Thanks for being real :)

PS- That fabric is BEAUTIFUL!
