One Fork Menus

I've been busy searching for another single stroller. Unfortunately, the First Rule of Secondhand Shopping applies: you will only find what you need when you least expect it!

In the meantime, you can read my thoughts on dining without a dining room at Blissfully Domestic today.

I do not have a dining room any more. I used the space that 'should be' the dining area as an office/family room because the living room of this house is my daycare area...BUT we still entertain a lot. I often have 8-12 people for dinner without a problem. I brought one of the round folding tables at Sam's club for $90.00. Works like a charm. I put a large 120" table cloth on it, set it with nice dishes and it is beautiful. I have got enough chairs through the house for everyone and I have 6 folding chairs that I put nice chair covers on. (I got the covers for less than $6.00 each at Target) I think the table is beautiful when it is all set up and no one really knows that it is not a 'real' dining table...
Love your ideas. Thanks for sharing. Roxie

Meredith, When my first stroller lost a wheel, I found a temporary stroller for free on Freecycle.org. It wasn't the one I would have purchased but it did give me the time I needed to find a second hand stoller that I liked. I just gave it away again when I found my current one for $10 at the Salvation army thrift store. Good luck. I've enjoyed your blog

I'm surprised you didn't replace the stroller in Florida. I don't know how you are managing, especially when you were on vacation, without a stroller with a toddler who is not 2 years old yet. This seems to me like a "use the emergency fund" purchase (and try to recoup some of the purchase price when the stroller is outgrown), although I am sure your frugality will pay off and a nice stroller will turn up. Good luck!

I'm not sure I had the time or energy to make it into a Walmart on vacation.

I was pretty beat!

Meredith, what sort of single stroller are you looking for? You have so many area readers, maybe we could be keeping an eye out for you..

I've just started a process whereby I'm hoping to BEAT the First Rule of Secondhand shopping :)
I'm getting ready for a new baby and found that I was focusing on only a few items at a time just to get them purchased (probably passing up other things because my placenta-brain was so scattered). Instead, I listed everything that I'm sleuthing for and I carry my list when I'm out and about. Then I can deliberately check the parts of the store or garage sale that apply to certain items on my list. I hope I'm being frugal and efficient! We'll see. . .
Good luck finding a stroller. You're a very experienced bargain-hunter and I'm sure you won't settle for less than your ideal.

So true and oh so frustrating and yet oh so rewarding!

I thought you had a double stroller at one time? One where you could put your little one in part of it and a bag of shopping in the other side. Was that the one stolen? Oh Rats!! I bet God will make sure you have one that you can use and it will be great! He does have a way of doing things like that. Lynn Marie

Meredith,

I just read your post and LOVED it whole-heartedly!! We don't have a dining room in our current house, so we have an island-type bar thing in the kitchen (two stools) and the dining table in the family room at the one end. I, too, have puzzled over how to entertain but realized quickly that loved ones really have no desire to come over here for any reason other than to be entertained by our 20 month old daughter, LOL, so sitting around her in chairs is totally a-okay.

Happy Monday!

And why is it that everything you find while second hand shopping is not what is half price that day?

Oh well, I bought it anyway as I needed it for a trip on Sunday.
