The big gifts

I am so grateful that our modest, secondhand Christmas is every bit as thrilling as one from Toys R Us, at least for small kids!
I lost track of how much I spent over the course of the year, but I'm sure it was less for each child than the retail value of their big gifts, respectively.

(Lest you think I am truly obsessed with blogging, I got online to send photos to faraway grandparents, so I thought I might as well share them here for the morning.)

Merry Christmas! I am glad you posted! The gifts you got look wonderful. Was EVERYTHING second hand? I wish I had bought more that way through the year. Several of the things I got the little kids were so junky (made in China stuff) that they are going back tomorrow. Sigh...I thought that I was pretty careful, but it just wasn't what I expected. Could you give us an idea of what you bought secondhand and even a ballpark estimate of what it cost? I am already thinking that I'd like to do second hand for the little ones next year for Christmas and birthdays.
Have a great day. We're off to grandma and grandpa's pretty soon!

I'm so glad you feel sheepish about posting, 'cause I felt sheepish about checking to see if you posted. I was really hoping you had.

May the peace of Christ be with you and your family today.

Meredith,
I think a thrifted Christmas is great!!! My daughter is 20 and she bought me two beautiful sweaters from a thrift store for Christmas. Our sons, 14, 10, 5, and 2 also received, a gave, some new and thrifted items too. We have always been on a strict budget and they have never complained. They realize they can have one toy from the store or many gifts from a thrift store or a garage. The joy of Christmas comes for the heart.
Have a joyous Christmas!!

My two oldest grand children got 'thrifted' gifts this year. Both wanted game boys...I looked for new ones. I found they are not made any more. I found two almost new ones for $50.00...both kids were delighted. (I told them the truth)
I got some new things for them too. But I stayed within the price range I set for each child.
Hope that you have had a great Christmas. Roxie

This was our first real thrift Christmas and the kids didn't know any different. With the exception of one store-bought toy (had a coupon, discount points AND split the remaining balance with grandparents) everything was 2nd hand. They still loved their games and toys and I am not so uptight about them scratching their things. LOL. We even made a dog house out of cardboard for our DS's stuffed dog. He LOVES it. :)

I think too many people equate thrift with cheap. That isn't the case here.

Looking forward to getting more ideas from you in 2008!! :)

I like your short posts - don't think you're obsessed with blogging at all! We love to shop secondhand :)
