French Cheese Toasts

There is nothing French about this hot cheese sandwich. It's a traditional tea room bread-and-spread from the original Recipes from Miss Daisy's. You can freeze these ahead of time and pop into the oven when guests arrive. This recipe makes good use of bakery thrift store bread.

Blend 1/2 lb. sharp cheddar with 1 stick softened butter.
Whip together 2 eggs, 1 tsp. garlic salt, and 1 tsp. onion salt and combine with the creamy cheese paste.
Spread half of this mixture on 8 slices of bread.
Place another slice of bread on top of each. (You need 16 slices bread in all.)
Spread the remaining cheese mixture on each top slice.
Dust with paprika.
Miss Daisy recommends cutting each toast into half, but I would stretch the recipe even farther by slicing each toast into three fingers.
Bake at 400 for 10 to 15 minutes.

Serve hot on the side of a salad plate.

Question- do you combine the cheddar/butter mixture with the egg/garlic/onion mixture and spread that?

THanks-- this sounds yummy

Yes, Kelli, you do. Thanks for catching that. I've corrected the wording above.
