Tomato trellis

Nope, not my garden. The zoo's farm garden is tended by our county's Master Gardeners. My little patch didn't fare too well during our vacation. Drought has stunted all my plants. I do have one potted cherry tomato with promise, but it needs a cage. I'm thinking I can make one myself. Here is a complete tomato trellis system, using cedar stakes and garden twine for support. I really like the natural look of these garden aids.

All of my tomato cages are made of bamboo and twine. I too like a natural look. We cut the bamboo from the side of the road. (yes, it is in the country growing wild here, and I know the property owners, I did ask first before I cut. Now my husband and I make a bamboo run every spring.) The garden looks so pretty with these 'cages' in it. Everything in the garden is 'natural' here. The only thing not organic is the drip watering system. Roxie

Nice! Thanks for the photos! I need tomato cages, too (for my one teeny plant), and you've inspired me to look for natural solutions.

My dad grows bamboo and I get enough for tomatoes and a trellis every year. I'm working on a clematis vine arbor over the back walk this year but it is moving slowly. Thanks for all the great tips and ideas!

I have actually tied up my lillies using morning glory vine that I had weeded from the garden and a green metal rod that was left by previous owners. It's almost invisible, and the if the morning glory disintegrates, I know that there is plenty more. I was thinking of trying something similar with my tomatoes
