Shopping Without Spending

Not Made Of Money shares her tricks for shopping without spending. Every once in a while, I enjoy browsing in fancy boutiques. I study the creative, handcrafted items and find ideas to use in my own home. The prices are too high for my budget--built-in-insurance against temptation.

This shopping-without-spending helps me recognize fine quality and great bargains later. You never know when you'll stumble upon something unusual at a yard sale or thrift store.

Yesterday my mom and I looked through a cute children's boutique. Oh, the beautiful clothes! Oh, the prices! I even saw Rebecca's style pillowcase dresses for $70 a pop. We realized that my kids are looking almost as good, for much, much less. Combined, the secondhand outfits below cost less than the sales tax on one pair of new seersucker pants.

UPDATED: Tired But Happy has an interesting idea of shopping with your camera.

Meredith, I have to say, I have a twinge of jealousy because your baby has SO MUCH HAIR! My poor little 14-month old has very thin sparse hair, yet she desperately wants to wear hair clips & bows. I've seen bows for babies without much hair, but they seem rather pricey. I should figure out how to make my own for her. I will spend $$$ on necessary things like sunscreen for her because she's a sensitive-skinned red-head(yikes, $13 today) but things like hair clips get lost so easily...

My daughter and I like to go "idea shopping" for crafting and decorating inspiration at craft and antique stores.
