The Sparrow Post

I shouldn't have left the house so soon after getting sick. But the day was so sunny! And how could I miss a neighborhood yard sale?

It was worth the mad dash back home. After reading Christy's idea for a family mailbox, I casually watched for something similar. As a child, Tasha Tudor's sparrow post illustrations enchanted me. A dollar is a lot for something so dented, but this decoupaged mail sorter was too sweet to leave. I paid $3 for everything, including this twiggy basket, a Tupperware canister full of baby spoons, a giant roll of gingham ribbon, floral tape, a box of cards and a Sierra Club datebook.
I also bought this robin's egg blue nightgown for only a quarter.

Glad you are feeling better!

You found great stuff today, in fact between you and the sunshine I am inspired to go yard saling this morning before we go to pick up the tire chains I found on craigs list for 1/2 of retail. (We're driving up to the mountains to play in the snow this weekend.)

I just typed a long comment and it said, "your request could not be processed." I'll try again - but it may be a duplicate.

Anyway, I wish I could go yard saling with YOU! I was also inspired by Christy's mail box idea though I haven't done anything with it yet. I love that gingham ribbon too!

Did you see this:

I thought you might enjoy seeing how someone else was inpsired by your blog!

Have a great weekend!

Oh I am so ready for YSS (yard sale season) around here. Will kick into gear in another month or so....

I love colors and little details-so I enjoy how you describe something as robin's egg blue instead of just blue. :) it sounds so much more eloquent, plus lets me know the real color in case my screen doesn't show the true shade. :)
Congratulations on the great deals!!

Great Buys. Yard sales around here never have such great prices (they would have wanted $5 for the nightgown). And I have never seen a yard sale on a Friday. Good for you and I'm glad you're feeling better :)

Great finds! Just so you know, I think those baby spoons (they look like the Take-N-Toss brand you can find in Walmart and Target these days) - a package of ten costs $2.50 alone!

Great finds, I can't wait till our yardsale season starts.

Love the mail sorter!!! That takes up less room than the boxes I have. I've got to start yard-saleing (yard-sailing? ;-) more!

I've been trying to come up with a mail solution myself. I think I'll keep my eyes peeled for something similar. Plus...I LOVE that nightgown AND for a quarter! I'm impressed. I got tips on what's supposed to be a superb yard sale tomorrow here in greenville, SC so hopefully I'll get the chance to stop by. Got plenty else to do though. Glad you're feeling better. It's been going around apparently

I think you got a great deal. As much as I'm enjoying our first big snowfall in FOREVER here in MN, I am excited for yard sale season too.

Now... hop back into bed and rest up!

I'm so amazed at the incredible yard sale and thrift store finds you come across. I'm in the midwest and our yard sales are terrible. Overpriced garbage mostly. We have consignment or resale shops and the prices are so high, you may as well buy new. Even our Salvation Army is overpriced. I think our next vacation will be to the south for yard sales!

Meredith-
I agree totally with the comments that Cinn made. I, too, live in the midwest and I NEVER find the kind of deals that you are able to find, and i consider myself to be a pretty savvy garage-saler. Our Goodwill stores around here are just outrageous in their prices, too. But I am glad that you are able to snag such incredible bargains. It keeps me inspired!!
