And thus, my empty decorating envelope. I found a Karastan carpet for $40. I hate to spend so much on an imitation Oriental, but the colors, the pattern--just right for the breakfast room. Our Habitat Homestore is unique among secondhand shops in that it offers refunds with receipt within 30 days. I thought it was worth a try, even though no one else thought a rug would work there. Its weight and depth pulls the whole room together. Overly traditional, perhaps, but the oriental rug + polished wood + bright fabrics is a classic combination. All that's left are my sister's blue toile chairs I am usurping for the other side of the room.
Now I'm extra happy that all my dishes are blue and white!

Blue and white dishes are the most flexible when you change your scheme, aren't they? They can add a country feel for some styles and still bring a sort of British refinement to the table that really unifies.
I like the new rug, you'll surely be happy with it when the snow starts falling!
Beautiful!!! Can't wait to see the final product.
I love the colors of the rug. I think it was a wise purchase since you love it. It will make you smile when those dreary days of winter come.
I think the rug is beautiful, and well worth the $40 price tag.
