Everything and the kitchen sink

Just a quick post while I have time away from my houseguest.
First, thanks to everyone who offered wisdom about dishwashers and disposals. Since the dishwasher takes almost 45 min. to run, I think I'll save it for company and cook-a-thons. Perhaps it's all my years of handwashing, but those jet-dryed dishes have an unnatural, squeaky texture. Besides, I finally have the sink of my dreams! It's deeper than my deepest pot and undermounted for=easy cleanup. We were so blessed that the previous owners filled the kitchen with products from their wholesale granite business.

The house decorating is not going so well. The beige walls have thrown me for a loop. Almost all of my existing furniture is wooden or deep browns, reds and greens. These warm colors looked rich against my traditional choice of yellow walls. But against a beige background? Blah. Blah. Blah. I am tearing my hair out, because I really don't want to repaint walls which have just been professionally painted. I should try to keep them the color that 98% of future buyers would prefer. In the end, though, it may be cheaper to pick up my paintbrush than to buy different furniture.

I am deeply humbled that my greatest worry is the color of my walls.

Painting is always hard (especially if you know it has been professionally done). I love to paint and have since I was 15 and able to paint my own room. Every apartment we ever lived in was painted. The house we live in is new and they have the beige walls and I have all the dark furniture as well, so rather than going out and buying all new furniture I bought and made lighter accents to go with it. Like pillows, blankets, things of that nature. We have darked frame pictures but with lighter pictures on the inside. I did paint my bedroom though and I am already ready to re-paint it.

Is there any way you could paint one of the walls an accent color? Maybe it would give visual interest to at least some of your furniture.

Beautiful kitchen!!!

I say paint away! You never know how long you're going to live in this house, so you should make it your own with colors you like. And if you live there more than a few months, it would probably need to be repainted before selling it anyway, especially since you have small children. And not everyone loves beige.

Your yellow walls in the old house sold lickety-split : )

Yellow might not be right in your kitchen, though.

The guest room looks very pretty.

You'll solve it! I have a feeling you won't be able to live with the jarring color disparity for long.

I'd go for painting too. You can have any colors you like and change it again, for less than the cost of furnuture, like you said. :) Colors really affect me in a profound way. I love colors. I actually thought about your idea for all white bath towels and couldn't bring myself to do it as practical is it is. My husband laughed how that is me. :)

I'd probably paint at least some rooms. I was just at a friend's house that they had repainted completely in beige in anticipation of selling in the next year or so. I hated it. A whole house of that is too much -- professional paint or not.

You're so cute, you already have your magnetic knife thingie up. LOL.

It seems a shame to cover perfectly good walls. How about some punches of color with accents? You could use colored pillows, throws, pictures or cushion covers. I did this with my beige and brown family room. I found pillows, vases, a bowl for potpourri and a candlestick all in a gorgeous reddish violet color.

With your wonderful knack for finding great discounts, you'll find these items in no time.

Besides, you don't have time to paint with a toddler and a newborn! ;-)

Meredith, I can't believe you haven't painted two walls already! Go for the color! Life is short.

You'll figure it out! Sometimes it just takes time. Live in the space and the ideas will come.

Well, I say do what makes it feel like home. I need a place to feel like it is mine. If you can live with the walls, leave them, if it takes painting them to feel like home....
Can't wait to see what you do.

I really like your sink and countertops. I would paing the walls if I thought the colors weren't working with what I already have.
