Holding my breath

Well, the house has not yet sold! The owner's nephew is insisting that she have an appraisal first. All that may take at least two weeks, before we even know if the house is in our price range. If that figure is close to its tax appraisal (and tax appraisals in our city are recently assessed and fairly accurate), then we can afford it. So now to keep looking at other properties and hold my breath about this one!

Meredith-
I prayed for you and your family last night, and for the lady selling this home, too. I am sure that, at 90 years old, she is saying goodbye to an enormous part of her life's history. I remember an auction I went to with my husband, right after we were first married. It was an elderly couple who were selling pretty much the entire contents of their home, then the home itself, and then were going to the nursing home. I remember watching them, holding hands as they sat next to each other in rickety old lawn chairs, watching all the pieces that represented all their years together, being one by one sold off and carried away by strangers. I remember crying a little as I watched it unfold. They were saying goodbye to a chapter in their lives while there were many young couples there, like us, who wanted to start a new chapter in theirs....I have been praying for you that, if this is the right thing for your family, it will also be the right thing for this elderly lady and all the people that are helping her make her decision. I know two weeks seems endless, probably, on your side of things, but it probably feels just the opposite to the family selling the house. I was telling my husband about how you just "happened" onto this house, and we talked about how God's providence works in dramatic ways in our lives sometimes. We'll continue to keep you in our prayers!
Susan

All the best Meredith.

I don't understand though - I thought that you said that the house wasn't for sale in the previous post? Or have I missed something as I've been reading??

Wouldn't it be exciting if you did get it!!!!!!!

Thank you, Susan! Two weeks isn't long on our end, except that we'll have to be out of this house in a month and I need to line up a place for us to live! : )

Anonymous, the lady holding the estate sale told us she thought the house was already sold, which is why I thought it wasn't available.

If this is a perfect place, can you arrange to rent a place for a month or two and put stuff in storage?

Think you could sneak a pic and post it? I love to look at houses.

I want to thank Susan for the flip side of the coin thoughts...I have been praying for the woman etc. but she brought out other things to consider. We will all too soon be in that spot ourselfs. It takes a lifetime to gather things and then quickly we have to part with them. When we have gone to yard sales of elderly people they just love for you to sit down and talk a spell. To hear the story of their treasurues and their life. They want some family to now have them and it means so much to them that they can help someone else. You can learn a lot from these visits. They need to be honored...as time goes on they have less and less people in their lives as their friends and family may have all passed away. They love to mentor and be needed and they have so much still to give. How many of the teachers and neighbors we loved sit days alone in a nursing home wondering about the street they used to live on and the old neighbors.Do you know anyone who would like a visit?
