Gift From The Sea

I wanted to show you my favorite Mother's Day gift.

We saw this seashell necklace at a yard sale for fifty cents. I nudged my husband until he got the hint!

When I inspected it more closely Sunday, I discovered that the chain is actually 14k gold.

Of course Andrew and I had to have a mini-lesson on shell identification using one of our nature guides. We call this "solving the mystery" by looking for clues. Using a magnifying glass only adds to the excitement!

As part of the bookcase decluttering, I was able to move all our natural history books to the study. This little bamboo shelf was the perfect holder for the small guides.

Now I'm curious, what kind of shell is it?

I had to ask the 4-year-old. I had already forgotten the name! It's a sundial.
