Sunday Evening Potpourri

Boston Gal’s Open Wallet asks us to “say no to storage space” when choosing a home.

Amy Loves Books features a thought-provoking review of the new Narnia.

Did you know that Sam’s Clubs do not require membership to use their in-store photo centers? 1-hour prints from digital media cost 17 cents apiece (2 cents less than Walmart); 2-day pickup prints cost 13 cents apiece.

At 30, I am officially too old to shop for a prepaid cell phone. I refuse to patronize a company whose official catchphrase is "Where You At?"

I have a prepaid phone...I use tracfone. I purchased it online (a used phone) and then I buy the minutes either at Sam's or off ebay. I average about 10/month which is cheaper than a contract phone. Let me know if you need more info. God Bless! Dena

We have a tracfone too and it is much cheaper. Can you elaborate about getting them off eBay? I've not heard of that before.

LOL! In my house everyone but the 12 year old and the 3 year old has a cell. The 12 year old really could use one, and doesn't only because I'm too old to accept that a 12 year old actually "needs" a cell phone. He is the only one of his friends who doesn't have one already. Two daughters pay for their own, and my youngest daughter is on a family plan with me. My husband gets one through work.

Despite my advanced age, I have adapted to text messaging. We text more than we talk, and I text and send pix to my stepdaughter in Iowa a lot. Yes, we all have a picture phone except hubby.

Because my kids text me all the time asking for things, my ringtone for texts is "Escape, The Pina Colada Song". My one daughter got revenge. She has a different ringtone for different people who call her. When I call, it plays "You're Not The Boss of Me"

Just type in tracfone in the ebay search box and VOILA a ton of hits :) I don't know how the listers get the minutes so much cheaper than on tracfone but I haven't had a problem. Allow yourself plenty of time...ie don't be low on minutes or expiration. When you win the auction, they will have you send your esn # and then they email you the codes to punch in.

We have Virgin Mobile and it's pretty cheap. But they definitely cater to the young and hip, neither of which I am. ;-> They're always offering deals to their customers. Right now I'm paying 25 cents a minute for the first 10 minutes use per day, 10 cents a minute after that. I pay $15 quarterly (for 60 minutes). I rarely use my phone, though. A minute here a minute there (which is why I have prepaid). They roll your minutes over and even have a very nice grace period if you forget to "top up" when you're supposed to (quarterly).
