My children are grown/older. We live in Birmingham, Alabama. My oldest was dressed as I felt hot or cold and was fine. My second was ALWAYS HOT! He was our family heater when we had The Bizzzzard of 92. There was no power for 8 days. My third likes to be snuggly. In Montgomery, Alabama most babies go without shoes or socks to this day. A beloved pediatrician there taught all the mamas that it was the only way to develope good strong feet and immune systems. Any barefoot babies at Church Nursery were from Montgomery! It's kind of funny because DD comes alive on days like today when it's 19 degrees or so-and I'm about to let them out in the snow and yes, it'll be a "discussion" the whole way about whether a hat and mittens are really necessary.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12364613.post-27936886032891528012009-01-28T05:35:00.000-06:002009-01-28T05:35:00.000-06:00I have a hot child, too. Her mother dresses her each morning in a onesie, pants and a long sleeve shirt. Special occasions, dress and tights. I feel that if I'm wearing long sleeves, then my children probably need the same unless they are older and are very hot (or cold) naturally. Most little ones will not come to you and say "Mom, I'm cold", and little ones don't have the ability to twll you. The film I watched showed a little child running around the Igloo in just a diaper, completely oblivious to whatever the temp was inside that Igloo!
Secondly, four of my five kids have short sleeves on today, even though the outside temp is only 14 degrees here in Central Illinois. That just strikes me as really funny.

I've always let my kids (toddler and up) wear sleeves, no sleeves, tights, no tights, based on THEIR comfort level -- which is unique to every person.

The exception is, if they are going to be in a car traveling somewhere they must have clothing appropriate for the weather at hand, in case the car broke down and they had to walk. That comes from living in extreme weather locations, I guess.

deb meyersAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12364613.post-66419437288681357002009-01-27T13:28:00.000-06:002009-01-27T13:28:00.000-06:00I was wondering if you would be up for taking you...I was wondering if you would be up for taking your camera with you the next time you hit the thrift stores.

And then doing a tutorial of where and how you look when looking through stuff at a thrift store.

You know, for those of us who never find anything good at their local thrift stores.Tammy and Parkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16591163985710800183noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12364613.post-71858048273572976922009-01-27T12:25:00.000-06:002009-01-27T12:25:00.000-06:00I love those Fisher Price outfits from Dollar Gene...I love those Fisher Price outfits from Dollar General. I had the same problem--our winters are mild compared to many places but still a distinctly colder season--because when planning for my 2nd son this winter I just assumed his brother's & cousin's hand-me-downs would fill the bill. Nope, we had stuff a size too small and a size too big (making a young toddler even clumsier than usual). Luckily a neighbor saved me with a box from her boys and I was able to share baby gear for her youngest.Tubo Familyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13648885392472180009noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12364613.post-32153695785713904842009-01-27T11:31:00.000-06:002009-01-27T11:31:00.000-06:00Yes, very cute! Being down south it takes so long to get cold that we forget it is going to:) My mom found a great sale on leggings so I've been putting those under dresses - she's even worn a few from last year that I felt were too short with tights. They're adorable with a dress over them, though, and Brenna likes that she's dresses like her college-age aunt:)Shannonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10142994274994642731noreply@blogger.com
