Maybe it would be the same at other libraries. Our family has visited several different Little House sites: DeSmet, SD, Independence, KS and Mansfield, Mo. All of them were worth the trip!DonnaBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13890459804766354255noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12364613.post-22546518602348667972007-09-04T18:28:00.000-05:002007-09-04T18:28:00.000-05:00Mrs. Pivec...how insightful to think of her writin...Mrs. Pivec...how insightful to think of her writing being so precise in her descriptions because she was "Mary's eyes"...I never thought of it that way!! The whole thing is a delight; I really should read the other series'. I think about it every time I walk by them at the library. I think I will begin checking them out.

We adore Jones' audio versions, and I have to say that I would much rather have her read the (somewhat tedious to me)descriptions of Pa building a door and everything else that he builds and that Laura describes than read it out loud myself. I have often thought that Laura's writing ability and attention to detail were developed in the years when she was "Mary's eyes."Creative Life Studiohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14306288585957249405noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12364613.post-56570593789400842002007-09-04T13:47:00.000-05:002007-09-04T13:47:00.000-05:00We have read every book ever written about Laura a...We have read every book ever written about Laura and her ancestors. I also read the biographies of Laura Ingalls Wilder and Rose Wilder Lane. Very insightful, along with the letters Laura wrote to Manly when she was in San Francisco visiting Rose during the Pan Pacific Exposition.
Fun reading all around!

I just gave all my Little House Books to the library for resale, it was hard to let them go, I admit.

RuthAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12364613.post-43855606472145674932007-09-04T11:58:00.000-05:002007-09-04T11:58:00.000-05:00My nieces adore the Little House books. I'd love to send them the prequels, but books are expensive enough without adding in overseas postage! I recently checked out the audio version of my favorite book for my husband to listen to in the car on his commute. Then when I taught second grade, I read them to my class after lunch just like my second grade teacher. When my students reached the fourth grade, the librarian told me they were all checking out the books to read again on their own. I hope to read them to my grandchildren when they get old enough. I also did not know about the Rose years.
