The Cupcake Collection

the_cupcake_collection_in_germantown_nashville_near_bicentennial_mall Today I said yes to cupcakes.

The kids and I explored the Cupcake Collection, a unique home & business. Owner Mignon Francois, her husband and 6 kids renovated a condemned house and then opened shop in the parlor.

(This Scene article tells more of the Francoise story.)

Cost: $1.50/ea for chocolate marble and fresh strawberry/lemon cupcakes. And worth every bite.

  2. Oh that looks soooo good!! After reading about the family and business, I would have said "yes" too. That's exactly the type of business where I want my money to go whenever possible--even if I could make a thousand cupcakes for the same price.

  3. Oh Meredith,
I've been away from the blogosphere for awhile. I just checked in with you, and I missed your sensability. You are always so thought-provoking and you usually make me smile.

  5. Yep...that's $1.50 cupcake I could definitely live with!

Hmm...what should I say yes to this week? 11 weeks pregnant with a 21 month old? I'm thinking a nap! ;)

  7. That looks SO good!

Since we've enjoyed talking about price differences by location, I thought you'd be interested (horrified?) to know that such a cupcake would go for at LEAST twice that here in Los Angeles.

  10. I think my trademark gift for most anything now would be a dozen of these beauties. A nice box of various flavors would be a hit for almost anyone in need of a pick-me-up. A box would also be a good supplement for a birthday cake so that everyone can choose a favorite. I have access to good (not great) cupcakes and I often take a dozen to wherever I am invited. I pay between $2 - $2.50 each for them.

  18. I think spending your money at a local business that supports a family is a good thing.

Being frugal and saying "yes" to a few treats here and there is a great thing. Trust me, my kids are now teenagers and they fondly remember those times that I said "yes." They remember the times their dad went to the local donut shop on a Sat. morning, or the unexpected trips to the local ice cream where mom temporarily threw the budget out the window and gave them permission to order whatever they wanted. The silly grins on our faces as we ate the biggest banana split in the state was priceless.

Supporting a local community of small business owners is also a great thing. Being frugal is admireable but I firmly believe that making an effort to support local business (even if they may charge a little more) is a noble deed.

I now have a serious craving for cupcakes....

  20. That is SO CHEAP, even for Nashville! I can't wait to try them. I've had the cupcakes at Gigi's and they're ok but not $3+ ok. (Too dry, icing that tastes like straight sugar.) I like Ivey's in Franklin but I never get down there and I think they're probably about the same price. So I am excited to get a delicious cupcake support a family business here in town. Thank you for the info!

  21. How fun & delicious! I am not a cake decorator so even though I bake we would have to go to a bakery for something like that...and you're making me think that I've never taken my boys to the fancy European bakery a couple miles from here.

I plan on trying it myself.
