Be proud of me

I made dinner for the first time in a week. No more than a vegetable plate and a pork loin, but a welcome change from frozen meals.

Did I feel more energetic than yesterday? Nope. But at least now I feel tired and accomplished, instead of just plain tired.

Hey, it's a start!

Go Meredith!

I hope you feel better!

Eating prepared food I found was pretty nasty and I much preferred making the effort to cook and eat REAL food...

I cooked up a big batch of food yesterday to reheat for dinners this week. Beats frozen food hands down!

Hope you feel better soon!

Ha! I know how you feel. :)

It's hot and I'm big and tired (due in 7 weeks). If it weren't for my daughter (almost 2), I don't think I'd make anything for dinner. Last night we had fruit and PB&J! :) Poor kid.

GO, you!!

A vegetable plate is a great side dish idea for the summer. I need to try this with more different meals, not just the sandwich sort.

meredith,

Baby steps!! No pun intended! Just temporary changes in your normal routine. Things will be back to normal before you know it!

I am proud of you. You give us all so much encouragement. Sometimes it is hard to lift up one foot after the other, but dinner sounds delicious as usual...and don't beat yourself up over a store bought coffee cake. Now and again it is good to remind the family what you actually do. My mother sent me a little sign which says" Nobody notices what I do until I DONT do it!" I have it in the greenhouse right now to remind me to water the tomatoes...they certainly notice if I don't! Gill.

Accomplished indeed. I traveled through your backyard two weeks ago and it was warm then. I can not imagine it while carrying a baby!
Good work getting something on the table!

That veggie plate looks yummy! We've been doing veggies and dip a lot lately; the dip makes all the difference for the kids...they hardly realize how many veggies they're eating. :)

Sounds yummy even though I am reading this before I have eaten breakfest. Proud of you!

I am not expecting but do remember those day's well. Even though I am not, I only managed to fix mac & cheese for my 5 children. Daddy was working late! Daughter had gotten hurt, broken hand!

Sometimes we just have to take a break! Hope you gain some energy or find more quick and easy meals to help keep that homemade food less stress on you!

Good for you Meredith! I remember how awfully exhausted I was when I was pregnant with #3. Definitely take it easy and be nice to yourself.

When you do have those spurts of energy, cook extra and freeze some for later. And stick with simple less complicated meals - like the veggie plate!

Yay! You go! I worked on being cheerful last night even though I didn't feel like it. Like you, at the end of the day, I felt much better in an emotional way.

If you felt better about the meal you gave your family last night then Yes, I am proud of you. That said, I think that you are too hard on yourself. I think that you are judging yourself harder than you would judge others.
In the hot summer months I always make several meals at a time. Like a large roast beef with all the trimmings on Sunday becomes hot roast beef sandwiches on Wednesday and then beef veg.soup on Saturday with grilled cheese.
Your pork roast for example would be made into 'pulled pork' sandwiches with slaw and potato salad....I know you know this. It is as old as the hills...Just please take care of yourself. Do not wear yourself out too much. Roxie

Well, I let everyone else do the dishes....does that count?

There were just enough pork slices left to send in a Tupperware for my husband's lunch.

I'll have to start fresh tonight.

Hang in there!

I am sure you feel better having made your family dinner and getting back into a bit of a routine. Both of my boys were summer babies, June & Aug., so I know a summer pregnancy can be tough when the thermometer soars! However, if you are way out of your normal, could this be a touch of depression? Just a thought, it can happen to any of us! If you are feeling too much unlike yourself, you may want to mention it to your OB at your next check-up. You've been dealing with alot lately, lots of upheavals with new jobs, health issues (get your results yet?), new baby coming, etc. Take care of yourself! You're important!

quick and easy idea: gazpacho, a cold soup made of cucumbers, tomatoes, red peppers, sweet onion. All thrown in the blender with salt, olive oil and a little vinegar. Serve with boiled eggs or croutons if you like. Delicious!
take care

Good job--I know it's important to do the things you take pride in so you can have that sense of accomplishment and satisfaction in seeing your family's comfort & pleasure--on both the dinner and letting familyh do the dishes!

You just take care of you! Things will all come together.

I'm going to the "Better Wife Boot Camp" with you. I'm not pregnant but I'm just tired all the time. Then I eat whatever is close at hand -- prepackaged junk. I cooked yesterday for the first time in months and hubby was so appreciative. I know exactly what you mean -- there is tired when you've done nothing to be tired from and then there is tired because you've been busy. God help us both to get through this slump time.

I'm sorry you are having a rough time. I think that when you do cook, you should make enough for leftovers. Too bad the roast wasn't large enough to make a big pot of barbeque. Take care of yourself and don't even think about doing an ice-cream social for 50 people! What was that all about anyway?

Here is an easy meal that I just made:

scrambled eggs with parmesan cheese and sliced tomatoes with salt and pepper.

Easy, quick and healthy!

oh Meredith, that is EXACTLY what I tell myself! If I'm going to be tired anyway, I might as well do something to be proud of :)
Yesterday was very Mondayish for me and I just kept putting one foot in front of the other, praying to make it until my husband came home. I did and we had a good evening and I went to bed content after all.
Blessings to you.

Well done Meredith! I can remember pregnancy with little ones was unbelievably exhausting.

I'm proud of you.

Cooking while pregnant was always much harder than at other times. I was always hungry, but I found it hard to cook.

My Mum had a good friend who suffered through numerous and various trials during her children's growing up years and beyond - and she often quoted the Scripture that gave her hope in those trying times.

"And it came to pass ..."

I just found out (HT: BibleGateway) that in the KJV of the Bible there are 497 instances of that phrase!!!! Perhaps the Lord wanted us to keep in mind that our struggles, while very real, are very temporary.

I think this last reference is my favorite:

1 Thessalonians 3:4
For verily, when we were with you, we told you before that we should suffer tribulation; even as it came to pass, and ye know.

I do pray that your struggles 'come to pass' quickly, and the Lord gives you strength in the midst of it all!

Thinking of you during this tough time....I know it can be so hard to be chasing little ones when you're "out-to-here" pregnant. I applaud your easy but substantial meal choice. Be good to yourself, & take things slower when you need to. :o)

Meredith, please don't be so hard on yourself. I speak from experience at trying to be the perfect wife/mommy/frugal person...

Remember Mary and Martha. :) Hang in there, you're doing so much better than you think you are! We're pulling for ya.

One of the things I love about the Internet and the blogosphere is you can almost always find someone who seems to be feeling just like you are. I think we;re due around the same time (I'm due in mid October) and not only do I struggle to think of things to feed my family these days, but pregnancy has just about gotten me beat, both mentally and physically. And getting more sleep or time away doesn't help. I need time at home to get things done. Luckily my three oldest kids went back to school yesterday. Hang in there!
