Well, I've done what I've always said I would never do--fall in love with a house at first sight. The problem? The house isn't for sale. We were driving to one showing this morning and passed an estate sale on the way. Naturally, we stopped! As soon as I walked in the period 50's kitchen, I knew it was a wonderful house. A giant tub of vintage Tupperware sat on the table. White cabinets brightened the room with yellow tile counters, perfect for my blue and white dishware. A small dining room off the kitchen, a sunny living room, a paneled den with fireplace and huge window...two large bedrooms and the same bath we have now, only in seafoam green. A giant two-car garage with vaulted ceiling that would easily remodel into a master bedroom suite. Oh, the yard--one acre, flat, sunny--ideal for gardening. The whole house full of possibilities unfolded in my mind. Our family could stay there forever if we had to.
The owner is a 90 year old woman who is determined to manage her own business affairs. The estate sale coordinator thought she might have found a buyer already, but would pass along our number. I tried to charm her with the cuteness of my baby and explained that my husband worked at the school just a few minutes away. Now I'm counting on prayer! I know it's a long shot, but how great would it be if I found our dream home at a yard sale?
It can happen. :) That's exactly what happened to us.
We happened upon an estate sale at a house that I instantly fell in love with. At the time the house wasn't for sale - the granddaughter of the elderly lady who had passed away, and who's estate sale we had came to bought the house - but the next year it came on the market and we snatched it right up. :)
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!
I will say a little prayer that you get the house you saw and loved at first sight.
It really sounds wonderful!
Well, that would be the best yard sale find ever! I hope it works out for you.
I'll be saying a special prayer!
My parents found their perfect house on a puddle stomp. Why, oh why, do I worry about where my husband and I will live?!? I hope it works out!
Good luck! Crazier things have happened...
Well, I would say that if you found diapers that you had been praying about at a garage sale, a house is possible too! There's no difference in difficulty for God, is there? He is good, and I hope that this is the house He gives to you. It was no mistake that you stopped there this morning. What a providential act of God that would be! We'll be praying, Meredith!

Well, good luck! I hope you do get that house--it sounds wonderful. Maybe God led you to that particular yard sale for a reason, to put you in the perfect new home!
Oh, wow, Meredith! That would be some find. I will definitely keep you guys in our thoughts. Way to use your baby to charm them ;) I really hope it works out for you- your family deserves it!
Well, I think there was a reason you were led to that house ... ;)
I sure will also be praying that if this is the house you love that He helps you get it. I know you don't want to hear this, but if it isen't He may have an even better one for you so hold on to that thought. He knows your heart. He loves your family too.
Count me in as a prayer warrior.
There was a particular house that I loved for many many years. It was across the street from my grandparents. I confided in my grandmother 15 years ago how much I loved that house. She said, "That house will NEVER be for sell." I kept looking at it and looking at it each and every time I drove by. About 6 years ago, we started looking for a new house and about 5 days into our search a for sale sign went up in this yard. In 5 days, it was MINE! Just hang on!!! The perfect house is awaiting you.
